Students in Kings Park

Students and teachers relished a wonderful educational excursion to Kings Park on Wednesday as part of the GATE program.

Kings Park is one of the world’s largest and most beautiful inner city parks. It is rich in Aboriginal and European history and is home to the spectacular Western Australian Botanic Garden, which displays over 3,000 species of the State’s unique flora.

Much of Western Australia’s history is recorded in Kings Park.

We enjoyed sweeping views of the Swan and Canning Rivers, the city skyline and the Darling Ranges on the Tree Top walk and for those brave enough to climb to the top of the DNA Tower, they enjoyed a spectacular 360 deg view of Perth.

Amongst others we visited the site of the Eternal Flame, the Bali Bombing Memorial, the State War Memorial, the Pioneer Women’s Memorial and discovered historic figures and events that have shaped our society.
We came back with stories to tell about the experiences we had.

One of the stories was about being swooped upon by Kookaburras and Magpies while we ate our lunch! More than one student lost her salad roll to these crafty birds who spied an easy meal.

After a superb day of walking, discovering and experiencing, we returned to St Clare’s tired but happy and more than a few of us with bird tales to tell!
